marisolMarisol: In today’s YAC meeting there was so much covered such as a deeper insight of some of the STD’s and how prophylactics help to prevent those diseases. The prevention of STD’s is crucial for the futures of many young people. We learned how the diseases are transmitted from person to person, such as HIV which is transmitted through unprotected sex [not using a condom] as well as other ways. We also learned the process of putting on a condom and how important it is to learn about it and talk about it with others. The meeting that was held today was personally very important to me. As I’m considering a career in public health, more specifically epidemiology. Learning about those diseases and how to prevent them is very important so that people can have healthier lives. In one of the videos we watched about victims with HIV and one of the victims said that she had to take a lot of medications because she had HIV. The costs of her medications are most likely very high and the burden of those costs for those families wouldn’t be fair along with the victim having to take those medications it is not right and the victim shouldn’t have to be living that way.
