Calling All You Mother Lovers!
A recently published article by SA Express News shines a light on the issue of Texas’ recent increased maternal mortality rate– So what’s the deal? The majority of pregnancy-related deaths within a year of childbirth are attributed to heart disease, drug overdoses, hypertension, and hemorrhaging– which are shown to be preventable with proper screening and care. Access to reproductive healthcare during and after pregnancy are critical to support a healthy pregnancy and prevent adverse complications.
Initiatives like the Texas Women’s Healthcare Coalition are the key for increasing family planning and decreasing teen and unplanned pregnancies by helping young women connect to preventative and preconception care that will help them stay healthy and prepare for healthy, planned pregnancies.
Healthy Futures of Texas’ President and former Maternal Mortality Task Force member, Evelyn Delgado, believes hope is on the horizon for Texas women! Along with the evidence-based programming like those provided by Healthy Futures, there are many other organizations in SA offering free support and resources for new parents to combat the increase in maternal mortality rates.
